An interesting documentary is coming up: “Everything Remains Raw” by Moncell “ill Kozby” Durden, who shows how Hip Hop and older dance forms like Charleston are connected. Big history! The trailer is fascinating to watch, showing the same dance steps in Hip Hop and in very old black/white clips.

I will hop the Atlantic tomorrow to join about 3000 swing dancers in New York City for a big memorial event for the great Frankie Manning, who died just some weeks ago at the age of 94. But don’t picture it as a sad event, it will be a week of crazy swing dancing and wild parties, as he loved it.
I will try to blog a picture every now and then. See you again in one week.

Á primeira vista
The new album by the Kleingeldprinzessin (Dota) features the great song “Á primeira vista (Auf den ersten Blick)” by Chico César. On the CD, it’s a great duett sung by the two of them.
Click here to watch the videos. The video with Dota is a live recording from São Paulo which has very nice audience interaction.
Surrealistic children’s TV
Well, I guess we missed something by not having Domo Kun and Bananas in Pajamas in German children’s tv :)
Domo Kun:
Bananas in Pajamas:
But Sesamestreet managed to be quite surrealistic, too. Great cows coming up!
And for some tap dancing:

Rainer Maria Rilke – Aus einem April
Wieder duftet der Wald.
Es heben die schwebenden Lerchen
mit sich den Himmel empor, der unseren Schultern schwer war;
zwar sah man noch durch die Äste den Tag, wie er leer war, -
aber nach langen, regnenden Nachmittagen
kommen die goldübersonnten
neueren Stunden,
vor denen flüchtend an fernen Häuserfronten
alle die wunden
Fenster furchtsam mit Flügeln schlagen.
Dann wird es still. Sogar der Regen geht leiser
über der Steine ruhig dunkelnden Glanz.
Alle Geräusche ducken sich ganz
in die glänzenden Knospen der Reiser.
Oscar Wilde – The Disciple
When Narcissus died the pool of his pleasure changed from a cup of sweet waters into a cup of salt tears, and the Oreads came weeping through the woodland that they might sing to the pool and give it comfort.
And when they saw that the pool had changed from a cup of sweet waters into a cup of salt tears, they loosened the green tresses of their hair and cried to the pool and said, ‘We do not wonder that you should mourn in this manner for Narcissus, so beautiful was he.’
‘But was Narcissus beautiful?’ said the pool.
‘Who should know that better than you?’ answered the Oreads. ‘Us did he ever pass by, but you he sought for, and would lie on your banks and look down at you, and in the mirror of your waters he would mirror his own beauty.’
And the pool answered, ‘But I loved Narcissus because, as he lay on my banks and looked down at me, in the mirror of his eyes I saw ever my own beauty mirrored.’

I made a big decision a little while ago.
I don’t remember what it was, which prob’ly goes to show
That many times a simple choice can prove to be essential
Even though it often might appear inconsequential.
I must have been distracted when I left my home because
Left or right I’m sure I went.(I wonder which it was!)
Anyway, I never veered: I walked in that direction
Utterly absorbed it seems, in quiet introspection.
For no reason I can think of, I’ve wandered far astray.
And that is how I got to where I find myself today.
PS: Just found a graduation speech by Bill Watterson. Check it out.

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Talking about graffiti, you should also check the urban knitting, world’s most inoffensive graffiti. I also like this knitted food.

Dilbert
If you need a litmus test whether you are a geek, it’s Dilbert: If you love Dilbert, you’re one. Somehow most other people can’t relate… Here are two not-so-well-known links:
- The current Dilbert strips without flash-overhead.
- A blog by Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert.

“Resistance is futile.”
