Coraline

Since 13th of August Coraline is running in German cinemas. Finally.

After reading the book and seeing the musical (in New York, music by Stephen Merritt from the Magnetic Fields!) I might already consider myself a fan, without having seen it yet. It is recommended for all fans of Nightmare before Christmas!

Counting the hop

Some thoughts on counting in Lindy Hop

• You have to count
  Although I find it often more useful to sing a rhythm than to think about counts, it is elementary to be able to count if you want to learn about the phrases and bigger structures of a song. There are many songs with a blues structure (12 bars to a phrase) that you cannot tell from a swing form (16 bars) without counting.
• Count to 4, not 8
  Counting to 8 is common in dancing, e.g. Salsa. My believe is that the biggest reason for this is the 8 beat basic pattern, like a swing out. It is not true that musicians count till 8 – they count till 4. So, if you want to improve your musicality throw away the dancing school habit of counting till 8.

Funny van Dannen spielt am 25.9.2009 in der Fabrik. Das Titellied seiner neuen CD Saharasand kann man auf Funnys Homepage runterladen: “Was ist gefährlicher: Rassistische Polizisten, oder Saharasand?”. Hhhhm, ok, aber wir gehen ja sowieso hin.

Wutzrock 28.-30.8.

Und noch was schönes festivaliges in Hamburg, umsonst, draußen und mit Eichbaumsee: Wutzrock, dieses Jahr mit so bekannten Bands wie Fehlfarben, Monsters of Liedermaching und Rantanplan, und sensationellerweise auch Panteon Rococo.

Subvision.kunst.festival 26.8.-6.9.2009

Das subvision.kunst.festival vom 26.8. bis 6.9.2009 macht Kunst, in einem ungewöhnlichen Hafenambiente.

Künstlerinitiativen aus aller Welt, die neue Ausstellungs- und Vermittlungsformate erproben, sind eingeladen, während des subvision Festivals für internationale Gegenwartskunst vom 26.08. bis 06.09.2009 ihre künstlerische Arbeit, ihre ganz eigenen Strategien der Präsentation und Vermittlung von Kunst vorzustellen. [...]

Eine temporäre Ausstellungsarchitektur aus Schiffscontainern und Baugerüsten bildet einen ungewöhnlichen Rahmen für ein unkonventionelles Vorhaben. Der Entwurf für das noch unbebaute „Filetstück“ der Hafencity orientiert sich an stadtplanerischen Modellen und zitiert diese nicht ohne Ironie.

I consider it strange that most washing machines have a window to see what the clothes are doing, but dish washers don’t. Why? Secret things happening in there, for sure.

Dockville art 2.-9.8.2009

Besides the music, there is also a lot of art happening on the Dockville festival site: Interactive art, large size installations, music created by the visitors. It’s already happening: The art exhibition/playground is openend from 2.-9.8.2009, then there is a pause until the festival 14.-16.8.

Unser Hauptprojekt des Kunstprogramms 2009 ist ein groß angelegter Musik- und Kunst-Spielplatz, der perfekt das Dockville-Konzept der Verbindung von Musik und Kunst verkörpert und zudem den Schnittpunkt zu unserem Kinderprogramm gestaltet.

Vor allem im Freien, aber auch in den Innenräumen des Westerndorfes errichten hier Künstler mit Unterstützung von reisenden Handwerkern großformatige Installationen, welche nicht nur bestaunt, sondern unbedingt von Publikum und Künstlern gleichermaßen bespielt werden sollen.

So blue

Starting yesterday I am working at a new company, Blau Mobilfunk.

Seems to be a pretty good choice, a friendly company and team. Our team is developing inhouse software using Scrum, Java and Rails.
More plus points: The company is located in Hamburg’s Schanzenviertel, which means a lot of nice choices for the lunch break. And we already had and won our first table soccer match : )

Nur noch am nächsten Wochenende (Do. 6. – So. 9.8.2009) gibt es Gelegenheit, die Elfen im Park zu sehen mit dem Stück “Bunbury oder die tiefere Bedeutung Ernst zu sein” von Oscar Wilde. Auf auf.

PS: “The importance of being Earnest” ist ja übrigens einer meiner Lieblingstexte. Dringend mal lesen, am besten auf Englisch!
