To fetch a pail of water.
Jack fell down and broke his crown,
And Jill came tumbling after.
Everything Remains Raw
An interesting documentary is coming up: “Everything Remains Raw” by Moncell “ill Kozby” Durden, who shows how Hip Hop and older dance forms like Charleston are connected. Big history! The trailer is fascinating to watch, showing the same dance steps in Hip Hop and in very old black/white clips.

Frankie’s Funeral
If you are into Lindy Hop dancing, you will have heard that Frankie Manning died at the age of 94. The funeral has been quite a swinging event, with a full big band playing and lots of smiling people dancing around the open casket. You have to see it to believe it – check out the video.
Here is one of the last articles Frankie wrote, “Dancers and Musicians – A Mutually Beneficial Relationship“. And listen to his own voice telling the story about “Frankie Manning and the Bucket Boys”
Finally one interesting post that discusses how the dance was presented and that there might be concessions to a racist stereotype about black dancers being wild, raw, animalistic.

My favourite dance videos, mostly Lindy Hop. Get out your shoes, and join the groove!
The classic scene from Hellzapoppin’ feat. Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers, music by Slim & Slam:

Tommy Blacharz and Max Pitruzella:

Tap Dancing Challenge from the movie “Tap”

And finally the Slow Jack’n'Jill from Barswingona 2007, from this great French video site.
