Flexibles Flimmern

Das Flexible Flimmern zeigt diese Woche einen meiner Lieblingsfilme: Freaks.

Browning had been a member of a traveling circus in his early years, and much of the film was drawn from his personal experiences. In the film, the physically deformed “freaks” are inherently trusting and honorable people, while the real monsters are two of the “normal” members of the circus. (Wikipedia)

Täglich vom 18.11. bis zum 21.11. zu Gast in der Kinderzirkusschule TriBühne, Anmeldung per Email an das Flexible Flimmern.

Ausserdem zeigt das Flexible Flimmern vom 16. bis zum 19.12. die Feuerzangenbowle, im Hamburger Schulmuseum. (Seitenanmerkung: mir wurde ja erst neulich bewusst, dass Professor “Schnauz” selber vorhat, Eva zu heiraten).

Bei der Feuerzangenbowle finde ich es wichtig, sich auch des historischen Kontexts bewusst zu sein, in dem er entstanden ist.

In dem Augenblick, da eine Propaganda bewusst wird, ist sie unwirksam. Mit dem Augenblick aber, in dem sie als Propaganda, als Tendenz, als Haltung im Hintergrund bleibt und nur durch Haltung, durch Ablauf, durch Vorgänge, durch Kontrastierung von Menschen in Erscheinung tritt, wird sie in jeder Hinsicht wirksam. Filmfest – The white meadows & At world’s end

Watched two movies today at the Hamburg Filmfest. The first one was “The white meadows”, a movie from Iran (Keshtzar haye sepid). Told in metaphors and allegories, this movie tells the tale of a man who rows across a big salt lake to collect the tears of people in sorrow. Very poetic pictures and story, but also a very black and dark satire and criticism of superstition and religion. Read more in this review. Watch some excerpts here.

The second movie was yet another danish movie: “At world’s end”, written by Anders Thomas Jensen who also wrote Adam’s Apples, Dänische Delikatessen etc. The movie was fun to watch, not as remarkable as Adam’s Apples, but still very entertaining.

Corpse bride cakes

Last week I went to the café Herr Max to see the movie Corpse Bride shown by “Flexibles Flimmern“. What impressed me most were the beautiful cakes that Herr Max created for that event. Great movie, excellent cakes, wonderful evening.

Coraline

Since 13th of August Coraline is running in German cinemas. Finally.

After reading the book and seeing the musical (in New York, music by Stephen Merritt from the Magnetic Fields!) I might already consider myself a fan, without having seen it yet. It is recommended for all fans of Nightmare before Christmas!
